We arrive at The Pond and I can see my teachers at the gates. They are waving at me with big smiles on their faces. Going to a new nursery is a bit scary but my teachers are always so happy that it makes me feel safe.
My mum comes in with me and we hang up my coat on my peg. I like having my own special place to put my things. Mum doesn’t leave straight away so we play with one of my favourite toys – the train set. I am really good at fitting the tracks together to make a big loop.
It’s time for mum to go and I still get upset sometimes. I’m sad to see mum leave but I stop crying straight away when I show my teachers I can make the train track by myself now. I am so happy to show everyone how good I am at building on my own. My teachers love talking to me about what I’m doing and help me to learn new words.
There are so many exciting things to do at my nursery and I choose what I want to do. I’m very curious and always ask ‘Why’. My teachers understand that I love to explore and they make sure there are lots of exciting activities for me to try every day. I’m a busy brain on the go and not built to stay still. Luckily my teachers know this about me. They know that I need movement, adventure and to engage with the world with my whole body. Trust me, I’m learning as I play.
I’ve been so busy climbing and exploring I need to rest a little. My mum told my teachers that my favourite book is The Gruffalo so my teachers have made a Gruffalo woodlands with a cave for me and my friends to play in. I choose the snake mask to wear as one of my teachers sits in the cave with us and reads us the story. She can do all the special voices and it makes me and my friends giggle! I see the owl mask and I change my mind, I want to wear it! My teachers help me to take turns with the masks. It’s hard being two and sometimes I can feel overwhelmed. My teachers are always there to help me understand the world around me and build my confidence, especially when it comes to being a good friend.
I’m feeling thirsty so I go to the snack table. My teachers are helping me to recognise what my body needs and how to be more independent. I can choose what I want to drink and what fruit I will try. I am also learning how to use the toilet all by myself. I still wear a nappy sometimes but my parents and teachers are working together to help me become fully toilet trained.
It’s nearly time to go home so we all help to tidy up. I think I’m really good at it and my teachers always let me know when I’m doing well. It’s important for me to help. It builds my confidence and makes me feel part of a team.
We finish our time together with some of my favourite songs! I love singing and moving to the music. I’m trying hard with all of the actions and love using the instruments. I can see my dad come in the door and he sits with me as we sing the last song together.
I hold my dad’s hand while he talks to my teacher about my day. As we leave I wave good-bye to my teachers. I’ve had a great time at The Pond and can’t wait to come back tomorrow!
